Ernest Lesley Taylor was born in 1924 too Ernest and Alice Taylor in Eccles Greater Manchester he
was the second child of eight surviving children,Ernest became known to his many family members and
friends as simply Les.
Les's employment started in the army and on his discharge he had regular employment which
continued when he decided to follow his dearly devoted sister Norma to Wiltshire, some 40 years ago.
he stayed with Norma, her husband Ray and their small children Karen. Denise and Chris, whom he took
great pleasure in watching grow up and did indeed adopt as his surrogate family as he had remained a
batch lour.
Les never forgot his roots though and over the years returned to Manchester visiting Janet
Farrington and her family then his youngest brother Derek and his family ware many happy hours,a few
beers and the odd whiskey was drunk! He did this traveling in his Robin reliant until a few years
ago, when he was involved in a traffic accident.
Les enjoyed his daily walks round to see Norma for his elevenses up until the sad loss of his
darling sister in 2005.
During the last eighteen months Les's health has determinate and has needed a great deal of
care which was undertaken devotedly, by Karen and her husband Mike born out of love and the help
of Derek and his family.
Les was a genuine beautiful sole who never had a bad word to say about anybody, his generosity was
next to nothing he never complained or ask for anything, a gentleman till the end.
It has been our honour and a great privilege to have had such a true gentleman as our uncle, Mr
Ernest Leslie Taylor,Les our uncle who gave the word gentleman a true meaning, thank you xx
My biggest memory of Uncle Les was when I was 11, I had gone to Wilstshire with my grandad and late
nana, Ethel Taylor, to stay with our late Aunty Norma (grandad and Uncle Les' sister). Every
morning I would come downstairs and Uncle Les would be there with a large mug of coffee and smoking
a cigar. He also had a dog (I cannot remember his name), who sadly died a few years later. After
that dog he got collie called Patch who sadly had to be given away as he was far too strong and
naughty for uncle Les.
We have been expecting it for months now but nothing can prepare you for the shock or heartbreak of
losing someone so close.
Say hi to ma nana n give her a hug 4 me. Tell her how much I love and miss her x
The Day
Good honest souls,
Are far and few,
But we found the best,
The day we met you.
A giver not a taker,
Always offered others,
A dear sadly missed uncle,
A precious one of a kind brother.
A warm welcome and smile,
Is what you did give,
For all of your family,
You enjoyed to live.
Never moaned about life,
Or shared your trouble or cares,
Just got on with this journey,
Even if you were scared.
A gentle genuine man,
Had not a bad word about anyone,
I look at your picture,
And can't believe you're gone.
A gentleman all your life,
Caring and loving too,
A precious soul in our lives,
Now the angels have you.
You wouldn't want us to sit here,
With tears in our eyes,
You'd want us to smile,
It's not a forever goodbye.
You're always in our hearts,
Only but a thought away,
And as long as we believe it,
You're soul will forever stay.
It was the month of January
In 1924 you were born to the earth,
The world received something precious,
On the day of your birth.
At a great age of 83,
In the last morning of August 2007,
The world lost a gentleman,
As you became an angel in heaven.
RIP uncle Les,
It has been a pleasure,
To know you like we did,
The memories will last forever.
(uncle Les is on the far left in the photo, then is his sister the late Aunty Norma, and my
grandad)
Cleared out the bungalow today (7.9.07). Cannot believe al never set foot in there agen :'(
Only we understood!
I promised mum I would always be there for you, I know in my heart that I never broke my promise.
Our love and respect was unconditional, we learnt a lot about each other, we laughed, we cried, you learnt to say I Love You, I learnt that quality of life is better than quantity.
We will always love and miss you, you were the best Godfather any-one could hope to have.
Until we speak again,
All my love
Karen & Mike xxxxxxxxxxxx
